We will continue our exploration of George Orwell's Animal Farm.  Make sure you are paying attention to story details and annotating your work.  Your reading folders will be submitted for a grade at the end of our unit.  Also you may have a POP reading quiz this week so be ready! READ below to find out our daily schedule:

Monday - Rock, Paper, Scissors with Lego Enterprises and Mr. Bear (studying terms of communism, socialism and capitalism).  Reading and annotating chapter four of Animal Farm. 
Tuesday - mini lesson on propaganda, read and annotate chapter five of Animal Farm, begin research for Great Windmill Debate! 
Wednesday- a vocabulary activator and the Great Windmill debate and poster presentations!
Thursday - Read and annotate chapter six of Animal Farm. Complete Other Side of the Fence activity. 
Friday - Read and annotate chapter seven of Animal Farm and discuss the negative impact of brainwashing.

We will kick off Unit 3 by meeting in the Media Center  and engaging in Book Speed Dating.  We will also learn some context for our class novel, Animal Farm.  Remember that grade amnesty runs this week for Unit Two. Any work you would like to submit for partial credit from Unit Two only must be submitted by the close of business Friday.  

Monday: Book Speed Dating
Tuesday: Animal Farm Intro Learning Stations
Wednesday: Animal Farm Chapter 1/Old Major vs. MLK
Thursday: Animal Farm Chapter 2/Rules and Vices

This week we will conclude Unit 2, Defining Style by examining the film interpretations of Alfred Hitchcock.

Grade Amnesty for Unit 2 will run until Monday October 23, 2017. 
Monday:
You will turn in your argumentative paper.  We will watch the Alfred Hitchcock version of Lamb to the Slaughter.  Students will answer a constructed response questions using the RACERS model.
 
Tuesday: We will discuss how Lexile scores can impact your future occupation, take our second Reading Inventory assessment. You will create a reading list using the PHS Library database.  We will end our day with a Kahoot! review of  unit 2 vocabulary.  

Wednesday: 4th Block ONLY - Unit 2 BINGO Review.  We will have our unit exam on FRIDAY! 

Thursday: 2nd Block ONLY - Unit 2 BINGO Review.  We will have our unit exam on FRIDAY!

Friday: Unit 2 Formative Exam - Vocabulary/Ethos, Pathos and Logos/Constructed Response

This week we will finish our in class work on writing argumentative research papers.  Please remember your final typed assignments in Times New Roman 12 point font are due Monday October 9, 2017.  Please be sure to check out the argumentative paper page of our website for more details.

Monday - Hooking the Reader
We will discuss how you can create engaging openers that readers refuse to put down.   
Tuesday - Argumentative Writing Workshop
We will discuss some of the nuts and bolts for your argumentative paper including internal citations, work cited pages and using Office365 and GoogleDocs to share your drafts.
Wednesday - I didn't do it!
We will read Roald Dahl's Lamb to the Slaughter and analyze the characterization of Mary Maloney.  
Thursday - Plead Your Case
We will use a scene from Law and Order to help us to develop a closing argument for Mary Maloney.
Friday - This or That?
We will end the week by watching the television adaptation of Lamb to the Slaughter.  Students you will answer a constructed response that compares the text with the television version.
